Accident and Incident Reporting for Teachers/Staff

Rationale: To ensure that teachers and staff of Bright Beginnings have a comprehensive awareness of their role and their employer’s role with regard to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
Policy & Procedure:
- Bright Beginning’s aim to maintain its status as a good employer by ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
- Bright Beginning’s management will empower staff to be facilitators of good health and safety practices.
- Where a permanent staff member or volunteer has an accident, proper follow up practices will ensue.
- Bright Beginnings will support staff in their return to work from accidents/serious harm.
- All permanent teachers members employed by Bright Beginnings will hold a current First Aid Certificate from a recognised training facilitator.
- A full first aid kit will be held in the over twos bathroom. Also available will be a travel first aid kit for excursions and another smaller first aid kit to be held in the under two’s.
- Staff will assess the situation where a colleague has had an accident in the workplace.
- Staff will use appropriate first aid procedures in the event of an accident;
- Where possible, the staff member who has had the accident will fill out an accident form for the purpose of recording-
- What time the accident happened;
- Where the accident occurred;
- How the accident occurred;
- What part(s) of their body were caused harm;
- What injuries they sustained;
- If further treatment for the accident is required;
- If there was an investigation into the occurrence of the accident;
- How the accident was managed.
- If appropriate, staff will contact the staff member’s emergency contact.
- Management of Bright Beginnings will support the staff member in their return to their rostered duties by:
- Liaising with ACC, occupational therapists, and other paraprofessionals;
- Offering light duties where appropriate.
