Policy for Staff Children at Bright Beginnings

3rd Nov 2016

Objective: To support centre staff who are in the role of both parent and educator.

Policy and recommended procedure:

  • Staff children will be able to have a position on either the permanent or casual roll – if one is available – but cannot be counted over and above the legal number of children permitted on the roll
  • Staff children will be treated the same as all other children attending the centre
  • Staff with children present at the centre will be expected to perform their duties the same as other staff
  • Staff with children attending the centre may be eligible for up to 50% subsidised childcare for their first child enrolled at the centre and 25% subsidised childcare for their second child. This will be negotiated on an individual basis
  • If issues arise that affect the staff parent’s work performance as a result of the staff member’s child attending the centre, strategies will need to be put in place to resolve the issues. This may result in the staff member needing to make alternative child care arrangements for their child.  Management, and in some cases the Trust, will determine whether the child’s attendance affects the running of the centre, and will give two weeks’ notice of the need to organise alternative care arrangements for that child.
