Teacher Registration

Rationale: To ensure all permanent provisionally registered teachers, Management and supervising teachers have a sound understanding about the process and expectations of the registration process, and the support available to teachers throughout this process

Policy & Procedure:

  • Bright Beginnings Management will have knowledge of the registration process and the expectations of individuals involved in the process.
  • Management will approve the appointment of outside supervising teachers and is required to endorse the application for full registration by co-signing the recommendation.
  • Employees and employers will complete the registration process with honesty, integrity and efficiency, respecting the rights of children, teachers and their learning community.
  • Employees and employers will comply with the intent of the statutory requirements with professionalism and integrity.
  • Management will identify supervising teachers and provide adequate training and job expectations for the role.
  • Management will identify the available support for a supervising teacher who holds a position at Bright Beginnings:
    • Time;
    • Payment;
    • Professional development.
  • Management will identify the available support for a supervising teacher who is not a permanent employee of Bright Beginnings including-
    • Payment;
    • Time to liaise with Management;
    • Agreed times for observation.
  • Management will support the provisionally registered teacher by providing-
    • Time to meet with the supervising teacher;
    • Feedback to and from management;
    • Time to observe in another early childhood education setting;
    • Staff meeting time to feedback the progress to colleagues.
  • Management will track the support grant for provisionally registered teachers and account for how these monies are spent.
  • All registered teachers (of any status) and Management will comply with policy in all aspects of their work as specified.
  • Supervising teachers need to comply with their role expectations.
  • Supervising teachers holding a position at Bright Beginnings will be supported in their role by-
    • Allowing one day (or two half days) per month for visiting and observing the registering teacher;
    • Negotiating a rate of pay with the manager;
    • Being provided with teacher registration support books from which to work with the registering teacher with;
    • Attending relevant workshops designed to encourage teachers in their registration process.
  • Supervising teachers, who are not permanent employees of Bright Beginnings will be supported in their role by-
    • Negotiating a fee for their supervising teacher services;
    • Negotiating a time to liaise with Management, where appropriate for both parties;
    • Negotiating agreed times to observe the teacher, which best suits the supervising teacher, the registering teacher, management and the centre.
  • Provisionally Registered Teachers will be supported in the registration process by-
    • Arranging an appropriate time, in consultation with management, to meet with their supervising teacher;
    • Formally meeting with and receiving feedback from management;
    • Being allocated time to observe in another early childhood setting, at a frequency of 2-4 times annually;
    • Being allocated time and space to give feedback and progress reports to their colleagues at staff meetings.
  • Advice and guidance programmes provide support and evidence for registering teacher’s appraisals.
