FIRE EVACUATION PROCEDURE
Rationale: To ensure all staff and children are evacuated from the building efficiently in the event of a fire.
POLICY:
Complete Notification of upcoming trial evacuation form found on Fire NZ website, and email to NZ Fire Service at least a week prior to drill.
Five minutes prior to drill, contact Fire Service control room supervisor on: (09) 486 7949 and advice the following
State name, the name and address of the premises, scheduled time of drill.
Contact Security Company to notify of alarm activation. Nutech Security: (07) 578 8233
Sound the alarm (Found near the staff toilets)
Leave the premises with the phone, grab bags and attendance register, immediately by the nearest safe exit.
Call the Fire Service (111)
Report to the Assembly Area in the car park.
Remain at the Assembly Point until the all clear is given by the Chief Warden or the Fire Service.
After drill, complete Trial Evacuation Report and email to NZ Fire Service.
–WARDEN DUTIES—
Building Warden (Chief Warden) = Person Responsible / Office Administrator
On hearing the evacuation signal:
Take telephone, first aid kit out of office cupboard, enrollment forms folder and ensure the Fire Service has been called (111)
Collect attendance register and report to assembly area and take charge.
Check attendance register to ensure that all children are accounted for.
Liaise with the floor wardens and the Fire Service.
Floor Wardens (Other Staff)
On hearing the evacuation signal:
Assist all occupants (children) to leave the building via the nearest safe exit.
Check all areas; sleep room, toilets and cupboards for children.
Take children to the assembly area.
Count the number of children and liaise with Building Warden to make sure everyone has been accounted for.
