2016
Head lice live on the scalp and feed on blood. It generally causes itching and the contagious period is as long as the eggs or lice are alive.
They are highly contagious.
Responsibilities of Parents and Bright Beginnings Staff:
- Parents are responsible for checking their child’s hair regularly.
- Parents must report infestation to staff. Children who are seen scratching their heads a lot should be examined for eggs or lice. If live eggs or lice are present, treatment is necessary.
Information on head lice and treatment is available from the centre or local pharmacies.
Control of Spread:
- Any child with head lice will need to be kept home from Bright Beginnings until treatment has begun.
- We will carefully examine the heads of all children and staff who have been in close contact with an infested child.
- Your child may return to Bright Beginnings after their first treatment.
- It is the parent’s responsibility to treat their child’s hair
- Head lice treatments only kill 3 out 5 eggs, so continued treatment and removal of all eggs from the hair is essential.
