Active Movement Policy
Rationale: To increase children’s control over their bodies and help them appreciate that exercise is an important part of growth and development.
Objectives: To encourage active movement in children, including both fine and gross motor activities. To provide a safe and success-orientated environment for all children to acquire movement and skills daily. To share information with parents/whānau and staff so everyone can participate in the active movement programme.
Policy and recommended procedure:
- The centre staff will plan daily for the acquisition of movement skills
- Adequate safety equipment will be provided and well-maintained
- Children will be encouraged to explore their movement skills and develop their cognitive abilities
- Each child’s range of physical skills will be extended with access to equipment such as balls, balance boards and a range of climbing equipment
- Group times will involve musical activities that encourage moving in space, moving to rhythm and being near others
- Bright Beginnings will allocate budgeted funds each financial year for the provision of resources and equipment
